The Person You’re Becoming
A Conversation with Elaine Starling
Some conversations stay with you long after the microphones are turned off.
My conversation with Elaine Starling was one of those.
Together, we explored awareness, alignment, and the quiet power of returning to yourself before life pulls you into old patterns. Elaine reminds us that lasting transformation doesn’t begin with a dramatic breakthrough. It begins with one simple choice.
One breath.
One pause.
One moment of awareness.
If you’ve ever found yourself reacting before you even realized you had a choice…this conversation is for you.
In This Episode
Together, Elaine and I explore:
- Why so many of our reactions begin long before we’re aware of them.
- The surprising power of simply noticing your breath.
- How alignment helps us respond instead of react.
- Why receiving can be just as important as giving.
- How returning to yourself changes the way you show up for the people you love.
One Moment That Stayed With Me
During our conversation, Elaine shared something so simple it would have been easy to overlook.
“Notice your breath.”
The more I reflected on those three words, the more I realized they weren’t really about breathing.
They were about creating space. Space between the moment life happens…and the moment we respond.
That’s where healing grows. Not because life becomes easier…but because we slowly become someone who responds differently.

Behind the Mic
Where the Conversation Continues
One of my favorite parts of hosting the Delay the Binge™ Podcast happens after we stop recording.
That’s when I often discover the lesson that stayed with me.
Every Wednesday, I share a short Behind the Mic reflection, one thought, one story, or one question that lingered long after the conversation ended.
This week’s reflection explores why I intentionally paired Elaine’s conversation with Tuesday’s PJ Hamilton story,
Don’t Freak Out, and how one simple phrase helped me see that story in an entirely new way.

A Note from Pam
Thank you for spending time here.
As we close the Return series, I’m reminded that meaningful change rarely happens in dramatic moments.
More often…it begins with one pause…one breath…one intentional choice…repeated again and again until we discover we’re no longer becoming someone new.
We’re simply returning to who we were created to be.
With gratitude,
Pam Dwyer
